Revolution Theme Previews

// October 13th, 2008 // No Comments » // Web

I’ve been a big fan of the work put out by Brian Gardner and Jason Schuller and the closer I watch the unfolding of their new working relationship the more excited I get. On Novermeber 1st the doors will fly open on a whole new RevolutionTheme web site and there should be some exceptional GPL themes waiting for us. In the past couple of days, both Brian and Jason have shared some intriguing new “teasers” for the community that I can’t wait to get my hands on.

Massive News v2

A new take on an old theme, Massive News v2 is a magazine style design that has a relatively clean look without being, what I would call minimalist. I can’t think of a use for the theme at this time, but it will definitely be something to consider when and if I find myself in need of a magazine theme.

Revolution Photo

Brian recently released a photoblog based on a prototype of this theme and I must say it looks very good. It is probably the lightest, most minimalist theme I’ve seen from Brian in a while, but that is by definition its very mission. The idea is for the theme to showcase the photos and not the other way around. I have a couple of projects in mind for this one already.

Revolution Lifestyle

You’ve heard of the “Softer Side of Sears”, well here’s the “Softer Side of Brian Gardner”. This latest theme has “Revolution” written all over it, but sports a softer, more female friendly stylesheet. I think the most important thing I take from this teaser is that Revolution themes don’t just come in black and white and that Brian has discovered a whole new region of the color spectrum. Surprisingly, this is probably one theme I really can’t wait to get my hands on.

Revolution Church

I’d have to say that either this teaser doesn’t show enough or I’m just not buying Brian’s statement, “it’s going to be ideal for grungy/media type sites”. Only time will tell, but for now I’m just not seeing anything all that new.

Revolution Going Open Source

// October 1st, 2008 // No Comments » // Web

Brian Gardner of Revolution fame and Jason Schuller from WP Elements are teaming up to create a new WordPress community and a big part of that collaboration starts with the Revolution themes going open source. As an affiliate, user and fan of the entire Revolution family, I’m thrilled by the news. I am currently working on a new project based on the original Revolution theme as well as Jason’s Charred theme. I’m also a big fan of the Featured Content Plugin. Schuller & Gardner; it’s like a WordPress geek version of Tango & Cash. You can read more about their plans here.
